The evolution in parenting and styles has changed so drastically over the years. From things parents had for their children, to disciplinary tactics, and family values are something that every day in the world is constantly changing. My mother and I often have conversations about my childhood and her childhood and how different things are today then they were sixty years ago when she was a small girl. Media has now played a major role in life today with all the technology and trends that children are trying to mimic. When my mom was eighteen she had her first child. She overcame raising small children with her boyfriend who was suffering from ALS. After losing him shortly after her second child was born she now faced the life of living as a single parent. Being a single parent then and now I think is completely different. The world to me, didn’t seem like such a scary place back then as it does now. She has often told me how the cost of living was much cheaper, more things were available, like finding babysitters for example. It’s hard to find a good babysitter these days because people aren’t who they seem to be anymore. Everyday you read the paper or watch the news and see more and more horrible things happening all over the world and even in our own cities. The United States, which at one time I thought was one of the safest places to live, now seems like a scary place to not only live but raise children .
